ESL English as a Second Language
This is a group for anyone who wants to practice their English, make new friends in Canada, join others in great activities for all ages and groups, and more. Yes, we are about learning English, but we are even more happy if you can have some better friendships and deeper relationships!
Every week we have a free, social conversation sessions with a Canada certified ESL/EFL/TESL teacher. Every week we offer different ESL friendly Bible classes for those curious about Christianity. Every month we have a special event with the purpose of having fun, sometimes giving back to the community, and above all building friendships.
Full disclosure: we are a church and meet in a church building, but those who come are in no way required to be Christians or give or believe anything in particular. We are here to offer a service to our community. We are partnering with two community service groups in 2023 and hoping you can be a part of it too!
ESL Conversation Group
Tuesdays at 7:30PM
This is a chance to practice speaking English in an informal setting and make new friends. It's a relaxed atmosphere where English learners of varying abilities can practice speaking and listening focusing on a different topic each week.
We spend an hour sharing thoughts and ideas, learning from each other, and usually laughing. Sometimes group participants organize special activities as well, like a potluck, going to see a movie, or going out for coffee.
We meet in the upstairs of the church building in the Collingwood Room. There is a side door to the building just at the top of the ramp in the parking lot, near the handicapped parking spaces -- this door will be unlocked and the classroom will be the first room you see when you walk inside.
You can also find this group on Meetup as "ESL Conversation and Activities."
ESL Bible Class "Who is Jesus?"
Fridays at 7:30pm
This class will be covering the teachings Christians have believed since the beginning of Christianity. It’s a great way to learn about Christianity or ask questions about what Christians believe. You do not have to be a Christian to come! The class is designed for English language learners.
Our winter & spring topic will be studying the life of Jesus using the book of Mark from the Bible. We will use Bible passages in English and give everyone time to compare to your native language. Each lesson will have some basic parts:
Vocabulary words from the Bible
Read a few Bible passages in English, then compare to your native language
Time for discussion or questions in English to find the meaning
We hope you can attend!
